Trump is Committed to Ending Destruction in U.S. Cities

Posted on Sep 2, 2020

President Trump is committed to restoring law and order in American cities that have experienced violence and rioting, as Democratic leaders look the other way while violence and lawlessness destroys American communities.

In Portland, Mayor Ted Wheeler has failed to put a stop to ongoing violence in his city for months, as the cities’ residents and small business owners pay the price. Seattle’s radical left-wing mayor pledged her support for socialist anarchists who set up an autonomous zone where lawlessness reigned and multiple people were shot. Radical left-wing politicians in cities including New York City, Minneapolis, and Seattle have slashed their police funding while violence in their cities have skyrocketed.  Congressional Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have failed to condemn this violence, and have even sought to justify it.

President Trump is committed to supporting our law enforcement officers and restoring law and order. The President has repeatedly offered federal support to cities overwhelmed by violent rioting, only to be rejected by Democrat officials who have caved to the radical left wing mobs.

The Trump Administration launched Operation Legend, surging over 1,000 federal agents to assist overwhelmed state and local law enforcement officials in cities plagued by crime. President Trump has stood against dangerous calls to defund the police that would jeopardize the safety of our communities. President Trump is a champion for the brave men and women of law enforcement. He’s increased their federal aid and worked with law enforcement and community leaders to pursue safe policing and safe communities.

As Vice President, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden slashed funding for police. Now he’s said he will “redirect” funding away from police again:

  • Despite Biden’s promise in 2008 to fully fund the COPS program, the Obama-Biden administration slashed funding. COPS funding dropped from $1.55 billion to $792 million. At the time, police groups protested the Obama-Biden cuts, calling the funding reductions “simply irresponsible.”
  • Federal aid to state and local law enforcement fell during the Obama-Biden Administration. Total federal grants to state and local governments from the Justice Department were cut by $833 million.
