Judge Barrett is a Judicial Rockstar

Posted on Oct 14, 2020

Judge Amy Coney Barrett continued to impress during day two of her confirmation hearings. Aside from her unparalleled qualifications, she effectively expressed her commitment to rule of law and equal justice, and outlined her commitment to judicial independence despite best efforts from Democrats to defy precedent with hypotheticals and campaign monologues.

Barrett made clear that she would continue – as she always has – to put the Constitution and rule of law above any personal interests, views, and beliefs. Democrats desperately tried to try to tie Judge Barrett’s commentary on the NFIB v. Sebelius case to the eradication of ACA, when the truth is she has no judicial record related to the ACA and will not prejudge any ACA related case that may come before the court. Through all twelve hours of her hearing, Judge Barrett made clear that she would always stand by her judicial obligations and never make any sort of precommitments on how she might rule, following Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s standard.

In fact, Democrats, Republicans, media, and fake news alike all took notice of Judge Barrett’s exemplary performance and the conclusion was unanimous, Judge Barrett is a judicial rockstar. Check out what they are saying:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY): “Judge Barrett is just as brilliant and impressive as advertised. She is clearly qualified. She’s committed to fairness and impartiality. And she clearly understands the job of a judge under the Constitution is to apply the law and not impose personal policy views.”

Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-SD): “To anyone watching today, it is absolutely clear how qualified Judge Barrett is to serve on the Supreme Court.”

Senate Judiciary Committee Member Ted Cruz (R-TX): “Day 2 was another good day for #SCOTUS nominee Amy Coney Barrett. It speaks volumes that virtually no Democrats questioned Judge Barrett on her credentials to serve on the Supreme Court.”

Senate Judiciary Committee Member Josh Hawley (R-MO): “Phenomenal morning for Judge #AmyConeyBarrett. She’s articulate, confident and in command of the law and the facts.”

Senate Judiciary Committee Member Thom Tillis (R-NC): “Judge Amy Coney Barrett is one of the most qualified to ever be nominated to the Supreme Court and has proven she reaches conclusions dictated by the law, not by personal preference. Very impressed with what I’ve heard from her in the @senjudiciary hearing.”

Senate Judiciary Committee Member Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): “The American people are learning that Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a legal and judicial rockstar.”

Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA): “Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s exemplary record proves she is a measured and impartial jurist who interprets the law as written. As a staunch originalist, she is dedicated to judging cases based on the Constitution – not her own personal views.”

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA): “Highly impressed so far by Judge Amy Coney Barrett at her @senjudiciary hearing. She has demonstrated incredible intellect, character and commitment to being a fair and impartial jurist — all without using any notes for reference. Quite remarkable.”

Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO): “Judge Amy Coney Barrett is eminently qualified to serve on the highest court in the land. Her responses before @SenJudiciary have only highlighted her superb credentials & her commitment to fairly applying the law as it is written.”

Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS): “She has continued to show she has the right character, temperament, and philosophy to serve on our nation’s highest court.”

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS): “Under ongoing @senjudiciary questioning, Judge Amy Coney Barrett is showing how undoubtedly qualified she is to serve on #SCOTUS, stressing repeatedly her commitment to apply the law fairly and impartially.”

Senator Deb Fischer: (R-NE): “Judge Amy Coney Barrett brought no notes. And she is not allowing attacks from my friends on the other side of the aisle to get in her way. Judge Barrett is showing she is extremely qualified to be nominated for SCOTUS.”

Senator John Barrasso (R-WY): “Judge Amy Coney Barrett is supremely qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Despite multiple attacks by Democrats, Judge Barrett continues to be incredibly impressive and professional throughout the Judiciary Committee’s nomination hearings.”

Ethics and Public Policy Center President Ed Whelan: “ACB sets forth conventional view of stare decisis (adherence to precedent). Her critics have wildly distorted her view.”

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich: “President Trump must be very proud of his nominee, Judge Barrett. Her humanity, her affection for her children, her down to earth humility. Her intelligence and professionalism-all these combine to make her an extraordinary nominee.”

Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker: “Judge Amy Coney Barrett is brilliant!  Just brilliant!”

Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders: “Judge Amy Coney Barrett is effortlessly demonstrating what a strong and independent woman and highly qualified and deserving candidate for Supreme Court looks like. President @realDonaldTrump simply could not have made a better choice.”

Law Professor Jonathan Turley: “Barrett’s statement on originalism leading off the hearing was one of the strongest statements in modern history. The statement that meaning ‘does not change’ with time is unambiguous and open. That confirms the transformative impact of this nomination for the Court at the outset.”

CNN’s John King: “In another age, I have been in Washington long enough, Judge Amy Coney Barrett would be getting 70 votes or more in the United States Senate.”

CNN Political Commentator Alice Stewart: “Judge Barrett could not be more clear on being an ‘originalist’ on the constitution. ‘It’s not up to me to update it.’”

CNN Law Enforcement Analyst James A. Gagliano: “Amy Coney Barrett’s response this AM to a question about George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis was amazing. Went far beyond her considerable legal qualifications. Poignant. Personal. Empathetic. Honest. Exactly why she’ll make an amazing associate justice on the Supreme Court.”

The Daily Beast Senior Columnist Matt Lewis: “It’s early, but ACB is hitting it out of the park. Her demeanor is perfect: Friendly, but serious. She is fluent at explaining the law, but has resisted the temptation to abandon the Ginsburg Rule.”

Fox News’ Bret Baier: “I think this hearing is going pretty well for Judge Barrett. She is obviously a very accomplished judge, someone who knows her brief very well.”

Fox News Political Analyst Gianno Caldwell: “I am very impressed with Amy Coney Barrett. Confirm her Now!”

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell: “Judge Barrett is an incredibly impressive candidate for the Supreme Court and she isn’t falling for any of the Democrats’ tricks or traps. Our country is lucky to have someone of her caliber who is willing to serve.”

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell: “That made her so relatable. This is a white mom with black children, explaining the talk that black parents have had to communicate to their kids for generations, for centuries, if you will.”

National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis: “Barrett is very, very good at this.”

National Review Editor Rich Lowry: “Amy Coney Barrett has been terrific—composed, knowledgeable, sure-footed, clear, and patient. She has made no mistakes, easily swatted away dubious arguments and avoided traps, while maintaining her even, friendly demeanor throughout. She knows what she’s doing.”

National Review Contributing Editor Andrew McCarthy: “ACB is very poised. I’m not saying she was anything but confident in her WH speech and yesterday’s opening statement, but talking about the law seems like such a home-game for her.”

Political Reporter Doug Sovern: “#AmyConeyBarrett is wicked smart and knows her stuff. Even though she was well-prepped for this, it’s clear why she’s highly regarded at Notre Dame. And she makes no apologies for who she is.”

Radio Host Hugh Hewitt: “Judge Barrett is clear, precise, polite and concise and her grasp of the law is the equal of any nominee I’ve watched since law school. A remarkable intellect.”

Radio Host Mark Levin: “By the way, Judge Barrett’s killing it.”

Washington Examiner Executive Editor Philip Klein: “This is the best performance by a SCOTUS nominee that I can recall. All recent nominees have been extremely knowledgeable. But Barrett demonstrates deep understanding of judicial issues/cases & communicates in a casual, friendly, conversational manner.”

Washington Examiner Commentator Tiana Lowe: “Amy Coney Barrett comes off as more affable, intelligent, and honest than the overwhelming majority of the senators questioning her, and yes, I’m including Republicans in that.”
